About the St Nicholas Coal Breakers

Current Status: Demolished

The St Nicholas Coal Breakers began operations in 1931 and ceased operations in 1965, but it was as if the workers had left just the day before…they even left their toothbrushes and boots behind as if they were still coming back the next day. 

This is in my top 5 of favorite locations. It was like somebody handed us the keys to go see a coal breaker that had just been abandoned the day before. The level of respect for this place showed in the fact that it had little to no vandalism over the 50 years it was abandoned.

The breakers were demolished in 2018.
